While Quantum is best known for its hydraulic thrusters, these QT 120's are 480V electric, complete with variable frequency drives and three control stations. “Derecktor Shipyards chose our QT thrusters because they know only Quantum makes a complete package that is capable of performing to their specifications,” said John Allen, Quantum's chief engineer. “They know they can count on us,” added Mike Perkins, Quantum's Vice President for Business Development, “because we only provide proven, tested equipment that meets the Alaskan challenge. Derecktor Shipyards has to have confidence that their customer can count on full maneuvering capability all the time- no exceptions.”

    Quantum manufactured, assembled, and tested the twin thruster setup in their Fort Lauderdale, Florida facility. John Barth and Drew Franz, respectively Controls Manager and Senior Controls Engineer, designed and built the electric and electronic controls and interfaces required for system operation.
