I felt it was about time I gave you an update on the success of the Rotor Stabilization which was fitted to Motor Yacht Impetus... I engaged the stabilizers in preparation for some rough weather as the wind increased to a constant 28 knots with gusts reaching 45 knots on the quartering beam... More Here
March 2006- We received this update from Captain Carl Sputh:Ok, how about this… 1st day of the charter we are underway from Falmouth, Antigua to Green Island time 1330. Seas 1-3ft... the galley is in full swing, interior staff setting up for lunch…. You know the game! More Here

| "Upon reaching open water outside the long channel (beyond Rottnest) we turned the boat broadside to the seas (taking the sea beam on) and placed the engines in neutral and stabilizers in center. The vessel quickly built up roll until Roscoe, the Oceanfast Project Manager, cried 'uncle' at ±12° rolls, when I engaged the Zero Speed modes. The vessel righted and maintained stability (within 1° in 2-3m swells within 1 minute of energizing ZeroSpeed(tm) stabilization) in this condition, drifting, to everyone's surprise and delight." |
| Mike Perkins returned from the Med with a similar story, after talking with those in the know on "Silver Cloud II." The word on board is that their OnAnchor™ conversion had been tested in eight foot swells at Great Isaac Light prior to their crossing the Atlantic. Even in eight foot swells the yacht was "like being at the dock."
Our friend and customer - the "Sinbad" (a 4-fin QC 1500 ZeroSpeed™) has logged some serious miles since launch. Reuben reports being in seas "over the wheelhouse"; but with the system engaged being able to sail on in relative comfort on her recent passage in the Indian Ocean. Captain Walters, unflappable as ever, even centered the fins just to see what the difference would be. He suggests keeping the fins active! |
| "I was able to put the boat into ZeroSpeed action with the owner on
board. We had a 3 foot swell and the boat sat like a dream. He also was
impressed. This is what he was expecting for stability... the performance was very
good." Captain Rueben, Yacht Sinbad |
| The captain of "Va Bene" reported that his boss was "over the moon" with the performance of their newly commissioned QC 1500 Zero Speed system after being anchored off St. Tropez for several days. Like "a new yacht!!" Just ask the folks on "Aussie Rules" about Quantum's unequalled service and support. For those who don't know, the "Aussie Rules" is fitted with Quantum 4-fin stabilizer system, two very custom crane Hydraulic Power Units, and a Quantum hydraulic steering system that has been described as "the smoothest we have ever experienced". Quantum provides comfort control at anchor and at lower cruising speeds with traditional fin stabilizers; and our innovative and powerful IMCS/ARCHER systems provides roll, pitch, and trim control for higher speed yachts. Recently commissioned, the "Bjorn II" is now cruising in Croatia, and the captain reports that the system has made an enormous difference in the handling of the yacht in a seaway. During sea trials off Mallorca we did put some time in a quartering sea to illustrate the difference, and the captain and owner both stated that the yacht handled much better and that they were "impressed" with the system's performance. Speaking about "smooth", QME has just delivered the hydraulic system for the new Millenium 140 Super yacht. Frank Mulder has done it again! This is a 70-knot project designed and engineered for a famous yachtsman. Mulder challenged Quantum to design and fabricate an integrated hydraulic system, bow thruster and ride control solution that was as light and efficient as possible. The trim tabs are fabricated of carbon fiber and, typical of Frank's designs, they are huge. Especially well received was the news that Quantum delivered the entire system 83 lbs. underweight from our estimates, done over a year ago . Mike Perkins recently visited the new Millenium yard in Holland, where the hull is now being finished, and he reports that the ship was doing at least 45 knots in the shed! We all look forward to the launch and trials. |
