ARC 3001 Model Control
The ARC 3001 is the control for ZeroSpeed™, the Quantum breakthrough that provides roll stabilization to vessels at anchor or drifting. Quantum supplies the ARC 3001 in two modes:
ZeroSpeed for new construction.
OnAnchor specifically designed with Vosper 3-L systems in mind, and created in conjunction with Quantum Stabilizers as an upgrade to systems already installed.

Comfort Control at anchor? Traditional fin stabilizers create lift at the fins through vessel movement. Quantum's research and development proved that fin movement, properly generated and controlled, can generate lift in and of itself. The fully functional systems already installed are the fruits of that development work. The right fins working at the right speed on the right yachts will significantly reduce vessel roll, even at anchor, even drifting. Quantum can determine if this technology applies to a particular design, and only Quantum has the experience and equipment to engineer and install this system.

The ARC 3001's multi-term roll control directs hydraulically actuated fin stabilizers underway, and at anchor.  ZeroSpeed?  At any speed, Quantum sets the standard for roll stabilization on the modern yacht.

Standard:
Microprocessor control
State of the art solid-state roll sensing device- totally electronic, no mechanical gyro
Full three term control- roll angle, roll rate, roll acceleration
Adaptive Logic- responds and adapts to changing sea conditions
Two control modes:
  • Standard, with Threshold adjustment for most sea states
  • Modulated, for gentler sea states, to allow proportional tuning of response and fin movement on calmer nights and days

Technical features:
NMEA 0183 interface – connect to existing vessel speed instruments
ARCBus- future serial bus to connect to ship management systems (in development)
Remote control- optional

All ARC control heads:
Size: 245 x 152 x 150 mm (9.65” x 6” x 6”)
Weight: 3000 grams
Voltage: 24 VDC nominal (22…30V)
Power Consumption: < 15 Watt
Temperature Range: - 100 to + 500 C (140 F – 1220 F)
Environmental: IP67 (fitted)

Roll Sensing Device:
All ARC control systems receive roll information from the sophisticated Quantum solid-state roll sensor:
Dimensions: 50 x 125 x 60 mm (6” x 5” x 2.4”)
Weight: 100 grams
Voltage: 24 VDC nominal (22…30V)
Power Consumption: < 1.2 Watt

Fin Control Unit:
The fin control amplifier provides fin angle input to the control.
Dimensions: 250 x 125 x 90 mm (10” x 5” x 3.6”)
Weight: 1900 grams
Voltage: 24 VDC nominal (22…30V)
Power Consumption: < 96 Watt
Temperature Range: - 100 to + 500 C (140 F – 1220 F)
Environmental: IP65

User Controls on Front Panel:
The fin control amplifier provides fin angle input to the control.
ON Activates the system. This also controls the test mode, during a forced roll test.
OFF Deactivates system.
CENTER Centers the stabilizer fins when they are not in use
AUTO Switches system to Adaptive Roll Stabilization mode. In this mode settings are automatically updated when roll conditions change.
ZEROSPEED
STANDARD
Switches the system to Standard ZeroSpeed™ mode. Use the rotary STABILIZE control to adjust the amount of fin travel required. Fin motion is continuously adjusted to the severity of each roll.
DIM Controls the brightness of front panel indicator lights.
MUTE Switches the alarm buzzer off when there is no alarm condition. Tests the alarm initiators and buzzer when there is no alarm condition.
MASTER Switches the system to local control when the system has a remote control unit and has been operated in remote.
ALARM
ANNUNCIATOR
Normally invisible indicators light when alarm condition persists.
MASTER/REMOTE Two annunciator lights indicate whether the control of the system is at the local or the remote station.
SIGNAL Indicates that roll signals are being received from roll sensor unit.
MANUAL Switches system to manual stabilization control mode. When the system is in MANUAL, the user may adjust a number of settings to the required values. This mode is useful when the “most common denominator” approach of the Adaptive Logic system is not preferred.

The user may set the following four control inputs:
STABILIZE Gain control
LIST CONTROL Determines the extent (from 0 – maximum) the stabilizers will try to compensate for the vessel's natural list, or the induced (wind, sea, etc.) list or heel.
BEAM/FOLLOW Determines the controller behavior under different sea conditions. The general rule here is to set the control to more SEA position when the waves have durations (measured in seconds) that are close to the ship's “natural roll period”. The same control is set toward FOLLOW when the wave durations are not close to the ship's natural roll period or when the seaway is confused and erratic.
STATIC FIN ANGLE Can be used to give fins an angle independent from the feedback signals from the roll sensor unit. The range is from 0 degrees to 50% of maximum fin angle (25…350).

FIN ANGLE DISPLAY Uses LED's to show fin angles

At the rear of the of the controller unit the following additional connections and interfaces can be found:
NMEA 0183 Interface: Used to connect the system to an electronic speed log. When connected, the system stabilization gain and maximum fin angle can be made speed dependent, This feature is especially important for fast vessels to prevent unwanted drag, and to prevent overloading the fins and shafts.
ARC-bus: A serial bus used to connect the remote control unit to the system. The bus will be made compatible with NMEA 2000. (In development)
The back of the case also has glands for power, fin control, and roll sensing cable connections. Additional functions such as a floating “system ON” relay, and a “Center Fins” input (for connection to a micro switch) are available through a separate cable gland.
